When we talk about hosting servers, there are three basic kinds - hosting servers, VPS (virtual web hosting servers) and dedicated servers. Shared servers host many customers and therefore the system resources per web hosting account are limited, VPS give you more server configuration independence, but also affect other virtual web servers on the hardware node if used imprudently, and dedicated servers offer you the autonomy to carry out everything you wish without messing with anyone else.

Why would you need a dedicated servers?

Dedicated servers are commonly much more high-priced than shared hosting web servers or virtual web hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The reply is rather simple. If your company has a busy website, or simply has very precise server setup requirements, the most logical option would be a dedicated servers. For somebody who is ready to invest in security and stability, the bigger price is not a problem. You have complete root access and can use 100 percent of the hosting web server's resources without anyone else utilizing these resources and interfering with your websites.

Hardware specs

Most hosting distributors, including us at RSPI, provide several hardware configurations you can choose from in keeping with your needs. The configurations offer different varieties of microprocessors, a different number of cores, different RAM and server disk drive sizes and different web traffic usage quotas. You can choose a web hosting CP, which is a convenient graphical user interface if you want to utilize the dedicated servers for website hosting purposes solely and choose not to use a Secure Shell terminal for all the changes you will be making. We provide three types of web hosting CP software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The hosting Control Panel of your preference

If you are a self-confident Linux user (our web hosting servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could administer your dedicated servers via a Secure Shell console exclusively. That, however, could be inconvenient, particularly if you want to give complete server root access to someone else who has less technical proficiency than yourself. That is why having hosting CP software installed is a great idea. The Hepsia web hosting CP graphical user interface that we offer does not include full server root privileges and is mainly appropriate for someone who owns plenty of web portals that devour a lot of resources, but wants to administer the websites, databases and email accounts through an easy-to-use hosting Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel hosting Control Panels, on the other hand, give you full root access and include 3 levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell hosting packages instead of utilizing the dedicated servers only for yourself, you should select one of these two.

Web server monitoring and backup services

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated servers and of backing it up. In the event of a predicament with your web hosting server, such as a non-responsive Apache or a network outage, it is good to have some sort of monitoring platform enabled. Here at RSPI the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you have a Managed Services package, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated servers as well. Backups are also a bonus feature - the web hosting services provider offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could pick a type of RAID that would permit you to keep the same data on 2 hard drives as a protective measure in case of a hard disk failure, or in case someone whom you have given complete root-level access erases something accidentally.
